Care to fit your life

Even with your family's busy schedule, you can get care how, when, and where they need it

So you’re watching one of your kid’s youth league games, cheering them on, when bam — they collide with another player and are taken off the field. You rush to the sideline, and they seem all right. But are they? Is it safe for them to go back in? Or should you take them to see a doctor immediately? What’s the right answer? How do you get the professional medical advice you need fast? Luckily, the Kaiser Permanente system is engineered to provide you with many options to address urgent situations:

  • Call our 24/7 advice nurse to help you gauge the severity of the injury.
  • Schedule a Get Care Now video appointment to talk to a doctor.1
  • Visit the nearest Advanced Urgent Care center if the situation requires immediate attention — and avoid a trip to a packed emergency room.

Whether you are at a game, at home, or on the go, Kaiser Permanente puts you in control of how you receive care, so you can make the right decision for your family’s health.

Urgent Care & Advanced Urgent Care instead of the ER

When you have an injury or illness that needs immediate attention, Kaiser Permanente has you covered. As part of our integrated system, the physicians at our Urgent Care centers know each of our members and have access to their electronic health record. They can view information about medical conditions, surgeries and treatments, allergies, current medications, and more, so they can make the right decisions. Many Urgent Care centers are open 24/7. Plus, the lab, X-ray, advanced imaging, 23-hour observation unit, and even the pharmacy are all in the same building to make getting care as convenient as possible.

Our Advanced Urgent Care (AUC) units treat serious, but non-life-threatening medical issues at a level that far exceeds standard urgent care clinics. Think of it as personalized urgent care, with shorter wait times than hospital emergency rooms, a care team that knows your health history, and an innovative care delivery space. The AUC’s deliver acute and preventive care services 24/7, including advanced diagnostics, treatment, observation, and prescriptions, all conveniently available on site, under one roof.

Connect with a doctor by video when you can’t go in person

Parents have a lot going on every day. Breakfast. School. Work. Appointments. Practice. Games. Dinner. Unfortunately, an injury on the field or an illness at home are never scheduled. You don’t want to add an unnecessary trip to the doctor to an already complicated day. But sometimes it’s hard to gauge what exactly is needed. Wouldn’t it be nice to talk to a doctor before you changed your plans?

As a Kaiser Permanente member, you can. When your child — or any family member — needs care but can’t get to a medical center, you can have a virtual visit with a Permanente physician through our Get Care Now telehealth option.1 All you need is a phone and an internet connection. Simply log into your profile on kp.org, select Get Care Now, see a doctor, and get back to your day.
